Life Goes On

In Board Game Design by Geordie Young

A lot has happened since the last time I attempted this blog. My second son was born, is almost walking now and has started swim lessons. My oldest son started jiu jitsu and the first grade. And, I started designing two new games. I believe it was Jamey Stegmaier who, in one of his invaluable advice videos on his YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/c/JameyStegmaier), said something to the effect of, Once you’re done designing your first game, scrap it and design your second. Your first game probably won’t be good anyways.

I am currently playtesting game number two, a deckbuilder with a Zombie theme, and so far it is going great. It’s a much more elegant design than my first game. Hopefully, once I finish local playtesting, the game will be ready for blind playtesting soon (still need to write those pesky rules). I’ll also need to come up with a rough budget for the game. Given the nature of a deckbuilder requires a lot of cards, a huge chunk of that budget will likely be art. I will endeavor to update this blog weekly for my own records, and if anyone ever sees it, don’t judge me too harshly for my lack of cohesion. I promise I’ll write Part 2 of that last post soon.. I just need to read Part 1 to remind myself of what I was writing about :D.
